ABOUT THE COLLIERS INN

Typically referred to locally as "The Joves", the Jovial Colliers was purchased in early 2017 by Matt Jones and his team and re-launched as "The Colliers Inn".

The Colliers Inn is a cosy and friendly pub located in the very beautiful Forest of Dean, in the heart of the Wye Valley. Recently refurbished the pub retains many of its original features including its stone walls, beams and original fireplaces one of which houses a huge wood burning stove.

At the rear of the pub there is a lovely terraced beer garden.

As well as good, reasonably priced food and beer the pub also has very affordable accommodation in its bunkhouse, which was formally the pub's skittle alley.

The pub is situated in the friendly village of Lydbrook which has a rich history of coal mining, tin plate works, chemical works and forges but is now a peaceful residential village.

It is the perfect base for activity holidays being about a mile away from the River Wye and set amongst spectacular scenery. Canoeing, river running, cycling, climbing, caving, mountain biking are all on our doorstep as are other local attractions such as "Go Ape", "Pedleabikeaway", "The Beechinghurst Sculpture Trail" and many more.

This area is very popular for those who love the Great Outdoors with its many walks and an abundance of local wildlife.

With a warm welcome, relaxing accommodation and beautiful countryside on our doorstep The Colliers is the ideal base for your break.

Dogs, children and muddy wellies are all welcome.

We also have free WiFi available, please ask behind the bar for more information.

OUR BUNKHOUSE

Our bunkhouse accommodation was formerly a skittle alley, reputed to be the longest alley in the Forest of Dean. It was built in the early 1900s and was used as a rifle range for the home guard during the second world war. It is situated at the back of The Colliers Inn and opens out onto a large pub garden with a paved patio area and picnic tables.

The bunkhouse sleeps a maximum of 38 people. We have a room that accommodates 12, a room that accommodates 10 and the remainder is made up of rooms that accomodate 4.

All of the rooms are heated and all of the beds are supplied with fitted sheets and pillows but you will need to provide your own sleeping bag or duvet along with a towel. There are separate gents and ladies washrooms along with two heated shower rooms with hair/body wash soap dispensers.

The bunkhouse costs £25 per person per night which includes a full cooked English breakfast. We're more than happy to provide a veggie breakfast, but please let us know in advance so we can properly cater for your needs.

Kettles and mugs are provided but you will need to bring your tea and coffee, although we can provide these for a small extra charge should you forget!

If you need it we also have a 16 seater mini-bus and driver available at extra cost, but this does get booked fairly quickly so please let us know when booking as it's a popular option.

Bunkhouse bookings can be made over the phone or via email.

Should you require we're also more than happy to provide packed-lunches by prior request.

Check in time is from 2pm and we ask that you are checked out before 11am. That said both these times are flexible so please ask if you have any special requirements.

Safe storage is available for bikes, canoes etc, we also have an outside tap for hosing down your bikes and wellies.

Superb Hospitality & Food (September 2019)

We booked the Colliers for Sunday lunch for a family group of 26. We were staying in a property locally for the weekend to celebrate my husband’s 50th Birthday. I was so impressed with the hospitality, the lovely food and those personal touches that make such a difference. They even pick up the Grandmas in their minibus! Such a great find! Thank you Nikkie & Team

Excellent place to stay for groups (June 2019)

If you are looking for group accommodation in the Forest of Dean then look no further than staying at The Colliers Inn and making use of their attached bunkhouse. Matt and Nikki are excellent hosts and will do everything they can to make your stay successful.
I was nervous organising a weekend away for 29 members of my cycling club. I need not have worried. We had exclusive use of a warm, dry and clean bunkhouse organised into four separate rooms equipped with comfortable bunk beds. Breakfast was included. Matt even provided secure locked storage for all our bikes. The evening meals ordered by the group were fabulous and just what hungry cyclists need after a long day in the saddle. The service was excellent and both food and drink good value.
Even if you are not staying at The Colliers Inn pop in and sample the ale and food. You will be sure of a warm welcome.
A massive thank you to Nikki, Matt and their staff for all you did to make this an exceptional weekend away. We have discovered a little gem here and we will be back.
